Wisconsin Judicare, Inc. is seeking an administrative/legal assistant to support the Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) program and Director. This position is based in office and located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin in the city of Wausau. 

ABOUT US:

Wisconsin Judicare, Inc. (WJ) is a non-profit law firm funded by the Legal Services Corporation, the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation, and other public and private sources. WJ provides civil legal services to low-income persons in the northern 33 counties of Wisconsin, as well as members of the 11 Federally recognized Indian tribes.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Process case coverage requests from private Judicare Attorneys who have given legal consultations to Judicare-eligible clients.

  2. Assist in early screening in difficult cases, especially bankruptcy, foreclosure, and Social Security cases.

  3. Directly refer occasional clients to private Judicare attorneys when the PAI Director is unavailable.

  4. Assist PAI Director in monitoring and following up on incomplete direct referrals. 

  5. Notify the PAI Director of any areas for improvement, recurring problems, or other potential alterations to the current Judicare private attorney materials and procedures.

  6. Assist PAI Director in the following projects as time allows: 
    • Reviewing and updating the running list of private Judicare attorneys.
    • Reviewing and updating the running list of private Judicare attorneys.
    • Reviewing and updating materials used-with and provided to private Judicare Attorneys.
    • Creating new materials and legal updates for private Judicare attorneys.
    • Creating and coordinating outreach materials and events to recruit new private Judicare Attorneys.
    • Running reports concerning the PAI program (regarding spending, active cases, attorneys, etcetera).
    • Researching and assessing technological and procedural improvements to the internal and external PAI program and procedures.
    • Provide administrative support.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be willing to provide high quality service to our low-income and diverse clients. Associates Degree or prior relevant experience preferred. Experience in the legal profession or legal services setting is especially relevant. Prior experience working in public service setting and/ or a strong interest in serving diverse populations a bonus.

SALARY AND FRINGE BENEFITS:

Position is hourly and starts at $17.00 - 24.00 per hour, depending on experience, for a full-time position (35 hours) and increases with years of experience.  This position includes full fringe benefits, which currently consist of health, dental, life and disability insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and vacation and sick time.
