Eugenia "Genie" Hedlund

Attorney Genie Hedlund has been the lead project attorney for Judicare’s Native American Victims Holistic Legal Services Project since November 2013.  Genie represents victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and stalking in state and tribal courts.  She is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as six tribal courts:  Court of the Ho-Chunk Nation, Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Court, Lac du Flambeau Tribal Court, Oneida Tribal Justice System, Menominee Tribal Courts, and St. Croix Tribal Court.

Genie practiced in the area of poverty law at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services in Mankato, Minnesota, from 1978 to 1988; was in private practice in both Owatonna and Mankato, Minnesota, from 1989 to 2008; served as the Rice Lake Office Director and staff attorney for Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) from 2008 to 2012; and worked as a contract attorney in Minneapolis during 2012 and 2013 before returning to Wisconsin.

Genie has experience as a mediator, volunteer Guardian ad Litem, and teacher of the Minnesota Extension Services "Parents Forever” classes.  She has handled a wide variety of cases over the past 38 years, including family law, social security, family-based immigration, health care, special education, housing, transportation, and government benefits.
