The program provides education and information to families with limited resources.  Programs include nutrition, food safely, and planning, preparing, and shopping for healthy foods. Information and education is also available to assist in spending plans and budgets to assure access to healthy goods. Methods of programming include monthly Extension workshops, home visits, education my mail, displays at WIC clinics, the Diabetic Clinic, Senior meals, and lessons in school classrooms.

This program is designed to help make maximum use of Medicaid as an alternative resource for health care services. Programs involved:  Presumptive Eligibility, Healthy Start and BadgerCare. Applications for these programs can be processed in office, home and hospital visits, or at the clients’ job site. Clients with other needs will be referred to proper agencies. Transportation can be provided.

This program provides assistance to individuals and families who are involved within the social services system by offering advocacy, case management, and resource referral services.  Family Preservation can help connect families with public assistance, energy assistance, job services, counseling, prenatal care and child care.  The program also offers family and community education and prevention efforts, such as the Community Circle.  Eligibility criteria:  LCO Tribal members and children of tribal members.

The Family and Child Education Program is a family literacy program serving parents and children 0-5 years of age.  The Home based component serves families with children 0-3 years old with child development and parenting information.  The Center based component serves families with children ages 3-5 years old.  Parents attend school with their children; brochures of eligibility criteria are available.

Mino-Maajisewin is a home visitation program that works with first time parents who meet the eligibility requirements.  This program assists families with parenting skills, parent-child interaction, child development, and self-sufficiency goals.  Services begin pre-natal or at birth and continue to age 3 years.  Medicaid recipients, First-time parents, LCO Tribal members, and/or children of tribal members are eligible.  (This program is a part of Consolidated Family Services).

Oakwood Haven works with women and men that are in domestic or sexual assault situations and with children who have been assaulted or have witnessed domestic or sexual assault situations.  There is a 24-hour crisis line and on-call staff on duty after regular business hours.  Shelter services include the victim and children.  Eligibility criteria:  Domestic and sexual violence services are geared to work with the victim and his/her children.  Our services are intended for the Native American populations within Wisconsin but are also open to non-Native Americans as well who reside within Sawyer County.  Programs under LCO Oakwood Haven are:  Adult Victims Domestic and Sexual Violence Intervention Program (DASVIP), Domestic and Sexual Violence Victims Shelter, Elder Abuse Advocacy, Child Victims Child Physical and Sexual Abuse Victims Advocacy, Child Abuse Investigation Services, and 48-Hour Crisis Shelter Services for Displaced Children.

The program deals with the reduction of infant mortality.  The purpose is to ensure that all Lac Courte Oreilles Women who are pregnant receive prenatal care as early as possible; preferable in the first trimester.  The program also assists families who have children less than one year of age to encourage healthy beginnings.

The Workforce Investment Act provides classroom training or work experience to any tribal member that wishes to attend college/vocational school to continue their education or to upgrade their job skills. The Summer Youth Program provides leadership skills, job readiness, and soft skills. Eligibility:  (1) Must be a Tribal member (2) Economically Disadvantaged (3) Unemployed (4) Youth must be between the ages of 14-21.

Through the Wisconsin Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus Non-Emergency Medical Transportation program, Wisconsin Medicaid and BadgerCare Plus members are provided with transportation or mileage reimbursement, lodging, and meals for medical appointments.

Tribal Court hears cases over which it has jurisdiction such as all civil matters including adoption, child custody, small claims, conservation, conservation, divorce, guardianship, legal separation, Indian Child Welfare, name changes, paternity, and landlord/tenant.
