Volunteer
Judicare Legal Aid, is always looking for qualified volunteers and interns to join our staff. Occasionally, Judicare also has openings for support staff and attorneys.
There are several opportunities for volunteers within Judicare’s office. Volunteers assist with general clerical duties – answering phones, filing, and working with the public. For more information about volunteer opportunities, please contact Judicare. If you are interested in volunteering, please send Judicare a letter detailing your experience and interest in volunteering, or call our office.
Interns
Judicare Legal Aid participates in the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Educational Opportunity Program for summer interns. High school students enroll in the program through their school and are matched with local employers. Wisconsin Judicare has sponsored an intern since 2003. Interns learn various office skills and assist with special projects.
Judicare also utilizes legal interns for both the Civil Unit and Indian Law Office. Interns have a wide variety of substantive research tasks to complete during their internship, and also get hands-on experience by participating in client interviews, pre-trial conferences, and other matters. If you are interested in a legal internship with Judicare Legal Aid, please mail a cover letter, resume, and reference list to our office, addressed to our Executive Director.
Want to volunteer in our mediation program?
Judicare is seeking to add volunteer mediators as the program is growing to address increased case loads. To volunteer you don’t need to be an attorney, rather just a desire and ability to listen and help parties determine what’s important to them. We generally reach a settlement agreement about 80% of the time.
Free training courses
Judicare Mediation Services offers free forty hour training courses throughout the year. To get the free training, mediators are asked to commit to the program for as long as they can, but we are very flexible as to the specific times you can mediate.
